Moving to Hawaii

So I locked us into a beach cottage in Ewa and we did absolutely nothing but sleep, eat, cry and swim for the first month. We talked about daddy, drew about daddy, wrote about daddy, bawled about daddy, dreamed about daddy and missed daddy. Together.

It took the full month before we were able to stay on the beach for two hours without Cecilia falling asleep in the sand. It took the full month for us to buy actual groceries without being completely overwhelmed by all the choices, colors and music. It took the full month for Cecilia to finally look at me and say, “Don’t you wanna go for a walk or something?”

Yeah, actually, I did.

I started to walk the beach without her and collect sea glass. She started sleeping less and eating a little more. We tried going to the water park and had fun, so we went again and again. We bought tins of salmon and fed the neighborhood feral cats. We found a Korean BBQ restaurant and wrapped seared meat in lettuce leaves. Within a month, I was able to reduce the levels of our anti-anxiety medications by half.

To me, that was the sign.

We needed to create a completely new life.
