Valley Village

We stopped by our old apartment building and unable to get into our actual apartment, we walked around the courtyard where Clayton taught Cecilia how to roller-skate, where the Easter bunny hid plastic eggs under the fig tree, where Clayton’s body had been carried out to a waiting black van.

Ceci dipped her feet in the pool where I taught her how to blow bubbles and back float, where she played jump with her daddy and where our friends came, every Sunday after his diagnosis, to slather their kiddos with sunscreen, BBQ on the grill, and say their goodbyes.

It was a lot. It was a lot to feel all at once.
